Date Night Chocolate Fondue (Print View)

Silky chocolate paired with fresh fruits and treats perfect for a romantic evening indulgence.

# What You Need:

→ Chocolate Base

01 - 5 ounces high-quality dark chocolate (60–70% cocoa), chopped
02 - 6 tablespoons heavy cream
03 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
04 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Dippers

05 - 1 small banana, sliced
06 - 6 fresh strawberries, hulled
07 - 1 kiwi, peeled and cut into chunks
08 - 1 handful marshmallows
09 - 4–6 cubes pound cake or brioche
10 - 1 handful pretzel sticks

# How to Make It:

01 - In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the heavy cream and butter. Heat gently until the butter melts and the cream is steaming, but not boiling.
02 - Remove from heat. Add the chopped chocolate and let sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth and glossy.
03 - Stir in the vanilla extract. Pour the chocolate mixture into a fondue pot or a heatproof bowl over a tea light to keep warm.
04 - Arrange all dippers on a serving platter for easy access.
05 - Using fondue forks or skewers, dip fruits, cake, marshmallows, and pretzels into the warm chocolate. Serve immediately.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Takes twenty minutes from start to finish, leaving more time for conversation and connection
  • The combination of warm silky chocolate with cool fresh fruit creates this incredible temperature contrast that keeps every bite interesting
02 -
  • Getting the cream too hot will cause the chocolate to seize and turn grainy, which I learned the hard way during my first attempt
  • Using a chocolate bar and chopping it yourself melts more evenly than chocolate chips, which often contain stabilizers that resist melting smoothly
03 -
  • A splash of Grand Marnier or Amaretto liqueur stirred in at the end adds this sophisticated grown up flavor that takes the fondue to restaurant level quality
  • If the chocolate starts to thicken too much, stir in a teaspoon of warm cream to bring it back to that perfect silky consistency
