# What You Need:

→ Fries Base

01 - 1.5 lbs frozen or fresh French fries
02 - 2 tbsp vegetable oil (if baking fresh fries)
03 - Salt, to taste

→ Taco Beef

04 - 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
05 - 1 small onion, finely diced
06 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
07 - 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning or homemade blend
08 - 1/3 cup water

→ Cheese & Toppings

09 - 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
10 - 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
11 - 1 large tomato, diced
12 - 1/2 cup sliced green onions
13 - 1/2 cup sour cream
14 - 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
15 - 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced (optional)
16 - 1/2 cup guacamole or diced avocado (optional)

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat oven to 425°F. Arrange fries on baking sheet according to package directions, or toss fresh-cut fries with vegetable oil and salt. Bake 25–30 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
02 - Heat large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook 5 minutes, breaking apart with spatula until fully browned. Drain excess fat if desired.
03 - Stir in diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté 2–3 minutes until onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
04 - Sprinkle taco seasoning evenly over meat mixture. Pour in water and stir thoroughly to combine. Simmer 3–4 minutes until sauce thickens and coats beef.
05 - Transfer cooked fries to large oven-safe platter or baking sheet. Distribute half the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses over fries, then layer seasoned taco beef evenly on top.
06 - Sprinkle remaining cheese over beef layer. Return to oven and bake 5–8 minutes until cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
07 - Remove from oven. Top generously with diced tomato, green onions, cilantro, jalapeño slices, sour cream, and guacamole as desired.
08 - Plate loaded fries while hot and enjoy straight away for optimal texture and flavor.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Everything you love about tacos happens on a bed of crispy fries, creating the ultimate mashup
  • The layered cheese approach means every single fry gets coated in melty goodness
  • Come together in under an hour but tastes like something from a pub that takes reservations
02 -
  • Never skip the step of draining the beef after browning, otherwise your fries will get sad and soggy underneath all that toppings weight
  • Layering cheese between fries and beef, not just on top, ensures every single fry gets coated instead of having naked fries at the bottom
  • Letting the beef mixture thicken properly before assembling keeps everything from sliding off when you try to grab a forkful
03 -
  • If your fries seem to be getting soft before serving, pop them under the broiler for just 2 minutes to recrisp the edges
  • Make your own taco seasoning and double the batch so you always have some ready for next time
