02 - 1 tbsp olive oil

→ Dry Rub

03 - 2 tbsp brown sugar
04 - 1 tbsp smoked paprika
05 - 1 tbsp garlic powder
06 - 2 tsp onion powder
07 - 2 tsp kosher salt
08 - 1 tsp black pepper
09 - 1 tsp ground cumin
10 - 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

→ BBQ Sauce

11 - 1 cup ketchup
12 - 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
13 - 1/4 cup brown sugar
14 - 2 tbsp honey
15 - 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
16 - 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
17 - 1 tsp smoked paprika
18 - 1/2 tsp garlic powder
19 - 1/2 tsp onion powder
20 - 1/4 tsp black pepper

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat oven to 300°F. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil.
02 - Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs. Pat ribs dry with paper towels and brush both sides with olive oil.
03 - Mix together all dry rub ingredients in a bowl. Sprinkle generously over both sides of the ribs, pressing firmly to adhere.
04 - Place ribs on the prepared baking sheet meat-side up. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 2 hours until tender.
05 - Combine all sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Set aside.
06 - Preheat grill to medium-high heat or set oven broiler to high.
07 - Remove ribs from oven and discard foil. Brush generously with BBQ sauce. Grill or broil for 5-8 minutes, turning and basting with additional sauce, until caramelized and slightly charred.
08 - Let ribs rest for 5 minutes before slicing between bones. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The dry rub creates this incredible bark that people will think you spent hours perfecting
  • That homemade BBQ sauce hits the perfect balance between tangy and sweet without being cloying
02 -
  • Removing that membrane from the back of the ribs is absolutely crucial or the rub will not penetrate properly
  • Letting the ribs rest after the final glaze prevents all that delicious sauce from running off when you cut them
03 -
  • Add soaked wood chips to your grill for that authentic smoky flavor even with the short cooking time
  • Substitute maple syrup for honey if you prefer a deeper, more complex sweetness
